Jane Allon Cuddehe grew up in a retail family in Pittsburgh, PA. Her father, Joseph Allon, owned and operated 15 ladies fashion stores under the name of Nolla Shops, in Western Pennsylvania.
Joe was a visionary, and in 1959, he opened Treasure Island, the first discount operation in the tri state area of Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia, 3 years before Wal-Mart, K- Mart and the like opened their doors.
Jane spent many hours working in both the wholesale operation of Nolla shops, and in the Treasure Island discount chain. Her understanding of customer service, and attention to fine details of retailing and merchandising were inspired by her father’s stores.
In 1985, Jane opened the first of 5 Benetton stores she would own in Iowa and Colorado. Her Benetton experience fueled a love of all things Italian.
After selling her 5 stores, Jane went to work for the fabled Bergdorf Goodman as a manager, and after meeting the dynamic shoe icons Joan and David Helpern, Jane worked in management for the Joan and David retail store on 57th Street.
In the late 90’s, as the word “pashmina” made its way into the minds of American women, Jane began an import business from Nepal, providing boutiques with hundreds of high quality pashmina/silk shawls. Her fascination with the shawl and scarf business eventually blossomed into importing from the incomparable fabric and design sensibility of Italy.
Her love of fashion, elegance, design and customer service, combined with soft, elegant fabrics and unique compelling designs for discerning clientele combined to create the Scialle wholesale, and now the Scialle direct to consumer businesses.
